Sophia and the Imaginary Friend
Welcome all those who dare venture the about page. I'm Sophia. If we were speed dating, I'd tell you I'm 20 years old, studying economics and history at Michigan, and most importantly, I'm an Aquarius. So once upon a time I had a best friend and we were absolutely inseparable, you know? The kind that knows all your deepest darkest secrets and see every single day without getting tired of the other person. Yeah, like that. Expect it wasn't like that. And two years later we're not on speaking terms. She disappeared from my life as quickly as she came into it and I had to come to terms with the
fact that I had spent my first two years of college investing myself into a friendship that was one-sided and toxic. In the process, I had alienated myself from all of my other friends, too. How I got here...
Experiment 1: The Children's Book
My lack of artistic ability and the feeling that I wasn't reaching my target audience quickly turned me off this story about a girl named Ginger with an imaginary friend named Cinnamon.
Experiment 2: The Screenplay
This felt too personal and dramatic a medium for me to pursue. I felt like I was harping on the past instead of focusing on the lessons I've learned and how I've moved on.
Experiment 3: The Fable
This was my favorite experiment, and I seriously considered going all the way with this one. However, when I brought this in for workshop, concerns were raised about whether I was promoting a story about differences rather than acceptance, having a coyote and a wolf as the main characters.
